Sam Adams shouting out to GetYourBizSavvy and a taste of some of our favorite jams.

This dude is everywhere. Friday he’s in New Jersey and everyone is fist pumping. Saturday he’s back up in Boston with girls screaming his name. Next week he’s in England. He’s like Carmen Sandiego except people can always find him; whether he’s on stage, signing autographs, or making new tracks. Sam is the definition of a game changer. Nine months after getting into the music industry, he blew up. #1 on iTunes, bookings all over the place, tons of publicity, the list goes on. Who would’ve thought a white kid with a 3.0 college GPA and soccer team captain out of Boston would get so big? No one did! And that’s the beauty of it.

He’s not your average artist either. He has an independent label and does not plan on signing with a major label. He writes his own music and it’s 100% organic. Alright, enough chit chat, get out of your seats (in this case you might actually want to sit down) and read this exclusive interview with everyone’s favorite college boy, Sam Adams.

And when you’re done, grab his album over at iTunes and pick up some Eighties Babies USA attire.

Are you getting sick of doing all these interviews?

Not at all. I don’t mind interviews at all. It’s a nice way to let people know what’s going on. Were all over the place.

It’s hard to get big as an artist. It sometimes takes years. Why was it worth going for it for you?

A lot of it had to do with my manager. At first, I was like why the fuck would I do that. I didn’t think that I was anything special. But it was a couple pushes and shoves from my manager and then we hit the market at the right time. People are looking for something different in hip-hop right now, a new sound. I think when people heard Boston’s Boy that’s what they thought.

How has surrounding yourself with the right people like your best friend Alex (Sam’s manager) helped you move forward?

It’s been undeniably important. I would be absolutely nowhere without Alex. To add to that, we have Jenn and Amy.  Amy’s my publicist and Jenn’s our consultant. I’d really be fucked without them. They all hold me down and make it a lot easier to live my life day to day and a lot easier to run my business. Surrounding yourself with the right people is really hard especially when you have to hire people because you don’t really know them. You need to find people that not only you can trust, but people that you like, so surrounding myself with the right people has been the most important thing for my career.

We asked Alex Stern in a previous interview what it’s like working with your best friend. We brought up the same question with Sam.

We don’t even have a manager-artist contract. What we have done is on some new shit.  No one does that. Any lawyer would say that I should have a contract. It’s not that were friends in business, but we’re boys and we did what we always wanted to do. We just so happened to be in the record industry.

Although you blew up on iTunes, did you have any struggles leading up to your success?

People didn’t understand what I meant when I said I didn’t take rapping seriously until 9 months ago. It means that I didn’t ever think I would make it as an artist. It doesn’t mean I wasn’t rapping for the last nine years. I just didn’t believe in myself and I wouldn’t put out music because I wasn’t confident in it.

What are you enjoying most about your new-found fame?

Being able to make people as happy as possible. Being able to make people smile and laugh and cry and have all these emotions at shows. It’s unbelievable and something I never felt before. As far as the actual part of the job goes, selling out shows and having girls and people that love you for the music you make and being the highlight of their week is definitely the best part. I’m in the business of pleasing people with music. It’s probably one of the best things in the entire world.

How much fun are you having?

I’m having more fun than I have ever had easily. It’s fuckin’ outrageous. I’m doing what I love and I get to see my boys all the time. It’s definitely a blessing and probably the best time of my life.

Why do you think people love Sam Adams?

I think it’s a mix. Like I said, we came in at the right time. And it’s feel good music and more importantly it’s a new type of music, a new genre that not a lot of people have explored. And people can relate to me because I’m a college kid. I’m a young 22-year-old kid trying to get extreme amounts of success in the music industry, which right now is in a recession. But I’m still making money and having success and meeting people everyday. And I’m cute so girls love me. (Laughs) It might be a different story if I wasn’t cute. Don’t take that the wrong way; I’m not being conceited at all. Also, how good I am to my fans. I talk to my fans all the time. I signed autographs and took pictures for an hour and a half in one of my recent shows. It’s a big mix. I give my fans the most amount of respect and love because they are a big part of the reason I’m here.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I never really knew. I thought about being an actor or a sports agent. This all just came together and thank god, because who knows what the hell I’d be doing if I wasn’t doing this.

What advice can you offer to aspiring artists and entrepreneurs?

Always follow your gut.

Hang on to your friends. Hang on to the people that are close to you.

Ladies and gentleman…Sam Adams!

Okay, LOVE your Carmen Sandiego analogy!
I really appreciate that he is honest to a tee. It is refreshing to see that someone is not only afraid to do what they love and make a killing in it, but they are also ready to say how they how there without fear or hesitation. Hard to come by.
